variable chaconnes

chaconne i
chaconne ii
chaconne iii
chaconne iv
chaconne v
chaconne vi

the chaconnes were written as a set of chaconnes that could be played by almost any type of ensemble. not only is the instrumentation up to chance, the unfolding of the piece may also be left to indeterminate means. in the chaconnes, any instrumentation may play any of the lines of counterpoint in any octave.

when performed, the musicians may either plan out which line to perform or they may play the lines at their discretion. by determining an established unfolding, there is no indeterminacy in the piece. by leaving the piece to chance, every performance will differ providing an infinite number of performance possibilities. any number of the chaconnes may be played as a smaller set.
